Lecture topic: How Music Became Classical
(the lecture will be held in Russian)
Why did “classics” stop being just music and turn into high culture? Where did the expression “classical music” even come from? Why were special halls built for symphonies, and why did names like “Beethoven” sound almost like the surnames of apostles? Perhaps, if we reconsider our reverence, the glass wall between the unprepared listener and “high” culture will disappear — and humanity will only benefit from it. Or maybe there are reasons to leave everything as it is?
